I’m not much of a sports enthusiast.

When a friend asked me about my plans for Super Bowl 50, I half-jokingly replied, “That’s a sporting event, right?”

Last week I wrote about one of the shortest and most powerful words in the English language (only not in a good way), which is “but.” This week, I’m adding two more to the list.

It’s one of the shortest words in the English language. It’s also one of the most powerful. Only not in a good way.

I was recently reminded of a call I got from a volunteer at one of the charitable organizations to which I regularly donate. It was decidedly different than the usual solicitation call. It started off so much better. And then it got so much worse.

Conventional business wisdom says, “Avoid mistakes at all costs.” I think that’s a bunch of hooey.
